Apply for citizenship in Van Nuys
The government calls applying for citizenship “naturalization.” There are very strict requirements that a naturalization applicant must meet.
You must be over eighteen years old. Children under eighteen fill out a different form and they automatically become naturalized when parents become citizens.
You must have been a lawful permanent resident (i.e., a green card holder) for at least four years and nine months before you can apply for citizenship. You can also start the naturalization process if you have been married to a citizen for two years and nine months and are still married.
During this time, you must have remained in the United States at least thirty months out of your five years or eighteen months out of the three years as a lawful permanent resident. The government may deny your application if you were out of the country for over six months continuously. You must also live in the state you are applying from for at least three months prior to the application.
An applicant for citizenship must display good moral character, a basic knowledge of the English language, and be familiar with America’s history and government. Meserkhani & Bagramian, LLP, simplifies the application process to help you and your family become Americans.
